A wonderful Trip to Muniyara village — Idukki, Kerala, India

Me @ Muniyara

Hello

I am Gijo Vijayan, Blogger, Author and entrepreneur from India. I belong to Kerala state, which is known for its natural beauty and charm all over the world.

I TRAVEL to lesser known places and write blogs about them.
I also promote local businesses related to agriculture and tourism through my blogs and youtube Channel.

I was born an brought up in MUNIYARA VILLAGE, which is in Idukki District in Kerala, India.

I visited my village after a long gap, my last visit was in 2009 and my recebt visit was on 30th November 2022, Wednesday.

I spent one full day at Muniyara. It was time to renew my contacts and meet old friends.

We had a home right inside the deep valley, there was hills all sides, we lived in perfect greenery amidst the beauty of nature for many years.

Muniyara Village is about 25 km from Adimali Town, enroute to Nedumkandam. Adimali town comes on route from Cochin to Munnar.

Most of the people of Muniyara are farmers. They grow the finest spices here like black pepper, cardamom, ginger, turmeric, coffee, chillies, vegitables.

We never used to buy any green vegitables when we stayed at Muniyara. The soil was black in color and fertile. Just throw any seed, it will give good harvest. People were healthy and we had a strong bond among ourselves.

Watch the video given below to see the beauty of Muniyara Village.

My family owned a building at the center of Muniyara town, we ran a tea shop years back.

Here are some photos of Muniyara Town. Have a look. This is how a typical village town looks like in Kerala.

Muniyara has very good roads, people are educated and there is private bus service to travel to nearby places. It is clean, neat and carry the legacy of the past. People who live here are mostly Hindus and Christians.

Mr.Babu (Babu Chettan), my friend and an incredible person. Here is a example of immense grit and will power.

Babu Chettan and me @ Muniyara

When I go Muniyara, I will go and meet my dear friend Babu Chettan. “Chettan” in Malayalam means — elder brother. We have a special bond. We met last time in 2009. At that time he was perfectly healthy and drove a Maruti Omni.

After I reach Muniyara, I straight away drove to his home. We spent few hours together talking about our families and various people and incidents. I was shocked to learn that he is under treatment for many years. He had the following problems.

  1. He suffered heart attack 5 times, and still he is alive. He is living with a stent in heart. A stent is a short, wire mesh tube that acts like a scaffold to help keep your artery open.
  2. He has prostrate cancer and under treatment.
  3. He had kidney stone and stone in bladder, now cured.
  4. His kidneys are not functioning well, because of medicines.
  5. His wife is under treatment for “Brain Tumor”

But inspite of all these difficulties, he is always happy and cheerful and leads a fantastic life. I was literally shocked to hear his story, I thought I must share his story to you because, the problems we face are nothing when we compare ourselces to people like Babu Chettan.

I had lunch from Babu Chettan’s home. He has a well built house, a car, a bike and incredible natural beauty surrounding his home.

People like Babu Chettan are examples of immense grit and willpower. It reminds us that we can also be happy in any horrible situation irrespective of the troubles and problems we have.

I found a small pool in front of Babu Chettan’s home. I liked it, I am sharing the same with you. There are water lillies in it (Aaambal Poove).
