A memorable visit to “Kulakkunnel Shri Dharma Shastha Kshetram” — Ayyappa Hindu temple, Kerala, INDIA on 14th January 2023, Saturday.

Kumaran chettan and me (Gijo Vijayan) @ “Kulakkunnel Shri Dharma Shastha Kshetram”

Hello

I am Gijo Vijayan here, I am a BloggerAuthor and entrepreneur from Kerala, India.

I travel to relatively unknown places all over India and write travel blogs.

Today I want to introduce you to a beautiful Hindu Temple (Ayyappa Temple) –Kulakkunnel Shri Dharma shastha Kshetram. This temple is located on top of a beautiful hill. There is very less information about this temple in the internet, so I have decided to write about it, so that you can also visit.

Visiting this temple will give you a mini Sabarimala experience. THERE is 18 padi here too (18 steps) before entering temple. Also a steep trek uphill, like that of Sabarimala with road full of stones and twigs. You must try to visit this temple when free.

My purpose of writing this blog is to give information about beautiful places so that you can know about the same and visit when you get time. Lesser known places are the most beautiful places I have ever seen in my life.

How to reach here?

This Hindu temple is located near Kothamangalam Town in Eranakulam district in Kerala, INDIA. Kothamangalam town comes in between enroute from Cochin to Munnar. Get down at Kothamanglam town, get into the bus that goes to Kottappady, get down at a place called “MEYKKAPPALA”.

From Meykkappala take an auto rickshaw to Kulakkunnel Shri Dharma shastha Kshetram. It will cost you Rs.70–100.

The autorickshaw will leave you below a hill. Here are few shops to have food and get refreshed. Then you need to trek uphill through — Acacia Forest for about 1 km and you reach this temple.

This temple opens only on 1st of every month (Malayalam zodiac calendar) for puja and remain closed for the rest of the month, unless there is a special occasion.

I visited this beautiful Hindu temple on 14th January 2023, on the day of makaravilakku (last day of closing Sabarimala temple). With me was my close friend — Kumaran chettan. We had planned a week before to visit this remote temple and by god’s grace it got fulfilled.

Ayyappa swamy called us and we just went for darshan. I was wearing an yellow shirt, by accident Kumaran chettan also wore yellow dress….I was mere coincidence.

Here are some beautiful pictures of “Kulakkunnel Shri Dharma Shastha Kshetram”. The deity here is Ayyappn

Threkking through the acacia forest is a wonderful experience. The temple is located on top of the hill. There is a wonderful view from the top. Here are some more pictures.

Never travel this temple alone. I have seen elephant dung on the way. This temple is situated in the middle of the forest and elephants in groups roam around the forest. You need to be careful. Always visit this place in groups. Here are some more photos.

While we visited the temple , we saw a special puja going on there similar to “Attukal pongala”. Women boil rice and other items in a pot and take home the same as prasadam. This puja (ritual) is performed for the wellbeing of the family. Here are some more photos of the same.

Here are some more photos of the place we took enroute. It was a wonderful journey and we plan to visit Ayyappa Swamy again, when the call comes.

I also travel to different places and make videos. It gives me immense satisfaction when I write about places and people that are not known in the internet.
